Female dog names
The Art of Dog Naming
There are several factors that go into making the name deciding game:
- What is the breed of the dog?
- What is your dog’s activity level? Does he/she jump around at all hours of the day, or does he/she bask without a sound the majority of the time?
- Is your dog a male or a female?
For now we will start with saying that the dog is a female.
Often females dogs have more cute names. It isn’t uncommon to have a female dog’s name end with the “eeee” sound. “Missy”, “Daisy”, and “Maggie” are all excellent name choices with femininity as the focus. Also the feminine route are the titles “Princess” and “Duchess.” For a super powered name, you could even dare to combine a title of power with an “eeee” sound name. Princess Maggie!
Many people choose to incorporate the breed of their dog into their dog’s name. For instance, a Chihuahua would be given the name “Chica”, and an Airedale Terrier “Airie”. How your dog looks could also influence the name you choose for them. A weenie dog with short, brown fur could be named “Brown Brown” or “Brownie”. A dog that has several white spots on otherwise black fur could be named “Dalma”.
Your dog’s energy level could also influence their name. A complete stranger could witness their behavior in the local dog park (or as you go for your daily walk) and notice that your pet likes to chase her tail a lot, spinning around every chance she gets. When told that her name is “Twila” they will exclaim that it is such a fitting name. Having a name that seems to go right with how your dog acts will evoke a sense of accomplishment.
My favorite mode of naming my dogs is looking at my favorite actresses or models and naming my dog after them. Some people would take offense to this, but I consider it to be a compliment of the highest caliber. If you wish to alter the name of your favorite pop star and call your new puppy by the name, that is also acceptable. I used to have a dog I called “Christie Aguila” in place of “Christina Aguilera.” She sure did live up to her replica pop star name.
